KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team will wrap up its indoor regular season tomorrow at the GVSU Big Meet. The meet will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
RECORD BREAKERS
The Broncos had some records fall a few weeks ago at the Meyo Invitational, as the DMR squad and
Soniya Jones vaulted to the top of the record book.
Ava Kurczewski,
Mabinty Kebe,
Rebekah Asselin and
Lily Overton were the four to break the DMR record, which stood for more than 15 years. The quartet finished in a time of 11:32.70.
Jones broke the 60-meter dash school record twice on day two of the Meyo Invitational. She crossed the finish line in a time of 7.45 to qualify for the final. She followed that up with the record-breaking time of 7.41 to win the event later in the day.
AMONG THE MAC'S BEST
The Brown and Gold have several athletes among the best in the MAC heading into the final week of the regular season.
Soniya Jones ranks first in the 60-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash, while the DMR quartet of
Ava Kurczewski,
Mabinty Kebe,
Rebekah Asselin and
Lily Overton is ranked second in the conference.
Outside of that,
Sandra Ferrari is third in the long jump and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles. Throws wise,
Sierra Sommers (fourth) and
Lane Hagens (fifth) are among the best in the shot put. Finally, the 4x400 relay team of
Mickaliliah Vassell, Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes and Kebe ranks fifth in the league.
