RIO VERDE, Ari. -- The Western Michigan women's golf team completed its first tournament of the spring season tied for eighth overall.
Over three rounds at the Rio Verde Collegiate hosted by the Broncos, as a team WMU shot 296-309-301 (+42) to tie fellow Mid-American Conference school Ohio for eighth place. Senior Megha Vallabhani had the highest finish for the Brown and Gold, tying for 20th after carding rounds of 70-77-78 for 225 (+9). Sunday's lowest round went to sophomore
Lauren Lupinek as she finished the afternoon at par, carding a 72.
The team who took home the Rio Verde Collegiate trophy was Bradley, finishing the tournament at 21 above par with a score of 885 (300-291-294). The tournament individual winner was Xavier sophomore Isabella Brozena. Brozena's three round total was one under par at 215. She carded rounds of 69-72-74 to take the individual title.Â
Across the three rounds, Vallabhani had the best individual day to begin the tournament, ending round one at two under par for 70. Western Michigan had two other players finished the Rio Verde Collegiate in the Top 30 individuals. Junior
Macy Beeson tied for 27th with a total of 227 (+11) after carding rounds of 74-75-78. While senior
Jenna Hayes ended the weekend tied for 30th at 228 (+12) with rounds of 73-78-77.
The final two players on the Broncos A team finished in 50th and 66th overall. Freshman
Danielle Daniy finished inside the Top 50 with a total of 232 (+16) following rounds of 79-79-74. Lupinek improved her standing by 21 places in the final day of the tournament to end at a 235 (+19) after rounds of 79-84-72.Â
WMU's B team was led by junior
Bella Brooks with a final score of 242 (+26) as she carded rounds of 82-76-84. She was closely followed by sophomore
Saanvi Venkatesh with a total of 245 (+29) with rounds of 81-81-83. Freshman
Lea Lemieux ended her first Rio Verde Collegiate at 248 (+32) after rounds of 82-84-82. Senior
Kailey White was the final member of the Brown and Gold competing over the weekend, finishing at 250 (+34) with rounds of 86-77-87.
Western Michigan will return to the course in exactly two weeks time at the MSU SoCal Spring Invitational hosted by Morehead State. The Broncos will travel to Camarillo, California for the three day tournament from March 8 through March 10.Â
