KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team and head coach
Colleen Munson have announced the signing of a pair of transfers in outside hitter Izzy Swiercz (Central Michigan) and middle blocker Gabby Weihe (Western Kentucky). The duo has already enrolled at WMU and joins incoming freshmen Ella Askin (Louisville, Ky.), Riley Messenger (Portage, Mich.) and Bri Zimmerman (Grand Rapids, Mich.) in the program's 2026 class. All five are slated to suit up for the Brown and Gold beginning with the 2026 season.
Izzy Swiercz • 6-0 • Outside Hitter • Hudsonsville, Mich. • Hudsonville (Central Michigan)
Swiercz arrives in Kalamazoo with two years of eligibility remaining after spending her first two seasons at Central Michigan. After seeing action in 11 contests as a true freshman, she appeared in all 30 contests this past fall, collecting 166 kills (1.64 per set) and 135 digs (1.34 per set), and ranking second on the team with 28 service aces.
The Hudsonville native was a three-year letterwinner at Hudsonville High School, where she helped the Eagles to three district championships and a regional title. Swiercz earned a litany of accolades during her prep career, including multiple All-Conference, All-Region and First Team All-State honors. As a senior in 2023, she was an AVCA All-Region, All-American First Team and Best and Brightest selection, and was also a Michigan Miss Volleyball nominee.
She played her club ball for Far Out Volleyball club in Grand Rapids, where she was teammates with current Broncos
Elana Erickson and
Carley Piercefield. The trio helped Far Out win the Emperor's Cup National Championship and finish third at the AAU 17 Open. Off of the court, Swiercz was part of Hudsonville High School's Academic All-State team three times and earned individual Academic All-State in 2023. She also participated in the MHSAA Leadership Conference Summit in both 2021 and 2022 and volunteered with Special Olympics.
Gabby Weihe • 6-0 • Middle Blocker • Noblesville, Ind. • Noblesville (Western Kentucky)
Weihe comes to Western Michigan with one year of eligibility remaining after spending the first three years of her collegiate career at Western Kentucky. In her three seasons with the Hilltoppers, she appeared in a total of 83 matches, racking up 232 kills on a .281 hitting percentage and totaling 139 blocks while helping WKU capture three Conference USA regular season and tournament titles and make three NCAA Tournament appearances.
As a freshman in 2023, Weihe started 25 matches and notched 122 kills on the way to earning a pair of CUSA Freshman of the Week honors and a CUSA All-Freshman Team selection. She hit .288 during her sophomore campaign to boost her kill total to 156 and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. This past season, Weihe posted a .323 hitting percentage and averaged 0.88 blocks per set, ranking second on the team in blocks per set for the second time in her career. Academically, she was twice named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and a two-time recipient of the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal.
Weihe attended Noblesville High School, where she helped the Millers improve to 21-5 and reach the IHSAA Section semifinals during her senior campaign. That year, she collected 167 kills and 54 blocks while earning IHSAA Gold Academic All-State honors. She was tabbed to the 2021 and 2022 IHSVCA Watch List and also lettered in track in high school, competing in the high jump.
She played club volleyball for The Academy 17-1 Elite Tsunami, helping the team to the AAU Girls' Volleyball Nationals, and also competing in the Adidas Midwest Championships, as well as the JVA Summerfest. Weihe earned numerous accolades, including being named to the 2021 AVCA Phenom Watch List, the 2021 and 2022 JVA Watch List and receiving the 2022 AAU Academic All-American Award.
