KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After a week off in the schedule, the Western Michigan track and field team will be back in action at the Meyo Invitational this weekend. This is the second to last meet of the indoor regular season for the squad.
TOP-10 PERFORMERS
The Brown and Gold had some standout performances in their last meet, as
Laurine Elisa Marimon and
Soniya Jones both cracked the program's top 10 in their respective events. Marimon was able to nab third place in program history in the triple jump, leaping a distance of 12.19 meters. Not to be outdone, Jones hit the track in the 200-meter dash and moved to fourth in program history with a time of 24.46. WMU has now had four top-10 performances in program history this season.
AMONG THE MAC'S BEST
Thanks to a strong start to the indoor season, WMU has produced some of the best results in the MAC. The Broncos have several student-athletes in the top 10 of their event groups, including
Sandra Ferrari (long jump) and
Soniya Jones (200-meter dash) who are at the top of the conference. Jones is also fifth in the 60-meter dash, and Ferrari is fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
Along with them, Western Michigan's 4x400 relay team of
Mickaliliah Vassell, Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes and
Mabinty Kebe is ranked third. In the 400, Vassell has earned the fourth best time in the conference. Along with that, Kebe is 10th in the 60-meter hurdles.
Additionally
Sierra Sommers is ranked third in the shot put, while
Lane Hagens is just behind her in fifth. Last, but not least,
Ava Kurczewski ranks sixth in the league in the 800.
