INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Western Michigan track and field team continued its strong start to the indoor season, producing some more top times on day two of the Hoosier Horsepower Classic this afternoon.
Laurine Elisa Marimon had the top performance of the day, winning the triple jump with a mark of 12.19 meters. That was good for third in program history and sits at No. 62 in NCAA Division I.
Outside of that,
Mickaliliah Vassell had a great showing in the 400, finishing second with a time of 56.02. That time is top-75 in Division I so far this season. Despite being the last event of the day, the 4x400 relay team made some noise. Vassell,
Soniya Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes and
Mabinty Kebe crossed the finish line in a season-best time of 3:48.25. That is top-50 in Division I this season.
WMU had a pair of PR's in the one-mile run, as
Ava Kurczewski finished second with a personal-best time of 4:57.37.
Lily Overton (5:05.25) and
Rebekah Asselin (5:13.42) were also in the top 13 of the race.
Larissa McGrath was the other Bronco to post a PR, securing a time of 5:22.47.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Sandra Ferrari and
Jade Celestine were on top of their game, earning second and seventh, respectively. Ferrari had a time of 8.64, while Celestine notched a 9.06.
Then, in the 800,
Joy Evans finished fifth with a time of 2:17.34 and
Emma Henkel recorded a seventh-place time of 2:22.92. Throws wise, the shot put team all finished in the top 10.
Lane Hagens finished second with a mark of 13.98 meters and
Sierra Sommers finished fourth with a throw of 13.65 meters.
Tess Van Dyk concluded the competition in ninth place with a top mark of 12.32 meters.
UP NEXT
Western Michigan will be off next week before returning to action on Jan. 30-31 at the Meyo Invitational. The meet will be hosted by Notre Dame.
