Track and Field Back in Action at Wolverine Invite

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After some time off for the holidays, the Western Michigan track and field team will be back in action this weekend. The Broncos will compete at the Wolverine Invitational on Jan. 10, hosted by the University of Michigan.

TOP-10 PERFORMERS
WMU had a great start to the 2026 indoor season, as a pair of newcomers notched top-10 marks in program history in their respective events. Laurine Elisa Marimon made her Bronco debut in the triple jump, leaping 12.07 meters. That was good for the sixth best triple jump mark in school history.

Not to be outdone, Sierra Sommers flexed her muscles in the shot put. She recorded the eighth best shot put throw in program history, earning a mark of 14.38 meters. Both Marimon and Sommers will be competing this weekend.

MAC CHAMPS MAKE SEASON DEBUT
After winning MAC Championships last season, Sandra Ferrari and Mabinty Kebe are back in 2026, making their season debuts on Saturday afternoon. Ferrari won the outdoor long jump title, while Kebe was able to claim the 400-meter hurdles crown.

Kebe is a back-to-back MAC Champion, while Ferrari has won MAC Championships in multiple events. She was the indoor 60-meter hurdles MAC champion in 2024 prior to winning the long jump last season.
