Penny Jernigan Becomes WMU Gymnastics All-Time Wins Leader

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Western Michigan gymnastics head coach Penny Jernigan became the all-time winningest coach in program history after the Broncos defeated Sacramento State and UW-Whitewater at SSU's quad meet on Friday night. 

WMU totaled a score of 194.525 to best the Hornets with 194.125 and the Warhawks with 191.725. UC Davis beat all three teams with a score of 194.775. The two wins pushed Jernigan's total to 81, surpassing WMU Hall of Famer Kathy Beauregard. 

The top individual performance came from Reese Samuelson, who claimed the bars title with a score of 9.850. Freshman Isabella Ciolfi had a career-high score of 9.775 on floor and tied for fourth place.

Bars was the team's best event on the day, with the group combining for a season-high score of 48.850. Aliyah Kelly and Reilan Garvey both scored 9.775's, while Makenna King had a 9.750. WMU's final scorer was Julie Korfhage, with a 9.700. 

WMU is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 1, hosting Bowling Green, Greenville and UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m.
