MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team posted a season-high team score of 194.675 but fell in its Mid-American Conference opener at Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
The Chippewas bested the Broncos with a score of 195.00. WMU (1-3, 0-1 MAC) showed improvement, also posting season-best team marks on vault, bars and floor.Â
Makenna King was the meet's top performer on vault. She earned the event title with a 9.825.
Brooke Gelesko tied for second with a 9.800, while freshman Isabela Ciolfi finished just behind her in third place with 9.775. WMU combined to score a 48.750 in the event.Â
Over on bars, all five scoring athletes for Western Michigan had scores of at least 9.725, led by
Julie Korfhage with a 9.775. King and
Reese Samuelson both had a 9.750, while
Reilan Garvey and
Kate Parks had 9.725's. Again, the team posted a season-high with a 48.725.Â
The team's third and final season-best mark was on floor with a 48.925.
Hannah Milton,
Aliyah Kelly and Gelesko each had a 9.800 to tie for third place. Over on beam, Milton posted the team's top score with a 9.750 to take second place. Samuelson scored a 9.700 and finish tied for third.Â
The Broncos head out to California for a quad meet at Sacramento State on Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET.Â
