Hockey Adds Defenseman Alex Calbeck

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan hockey program and head coach Pat Ferschweiler have announced the addition of defenseman Alex Calbeck. Calbeck will join the team immediately and be eligible to play the rest of the 2025-26 season.

Prior to arriving at WMU, Calbeck played 86 games for the USHL's Chicago Steel. In those games, the Illinois native was able to produce 21 points on four goals and 17 assists. He was having a productive 2025-26 season with the Steel prior to his departure. In 33 games, the talented blue liner had 13 points on two goals and 11 assists. Those 13 points were top 25 in the USHL among all defensemen.

Calbeck saw his game rounding in to form this season, firing 46 pucks on net, scoring once on the power play and only spending six minutes in the penalty box. The bruising blue liner had an assist, five shots on goal and was +2 in his final weekend series in the USHL on Jan. 9-10.

The Broncos are off this week, but they will return to action on Jan. 23-24 at Minnesota Duluth. The series opener is set for 8 PM ET at Amsoil Arena.
