KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Sophomore goaltender
Hampton Slukynsky was named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List this afternoon by the Hockey Commissioners Association.
The award is given annually to the top goalie in Division I. Slukynsky has been on the watch list each of the last two seasons. He is joined on the list by 28 other goalies, including five from the NCHC.
The Warroad, Minn. native has been red hot over the last few weeks, helping the Broncos win seven games in a row and 11 of their last 12. During the current seven-game win streak, Slukynsky has produced a 1.28 goals against average and .953 save percentage. He's also added two shutouts and an assist.
On the season, he holds a 16-6-0 record to go along with a 2.37 GAA and .909 save percentage. His three shutouts lead the nation, and he's made 518 total saves this season.
A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media — will pare the list down to approximately a dozen semifinalists within the next three weeks and then ultimately choose a winner from three finalists who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.
