Hockey Welcomes 10 New Players for 2025-26 Season

 KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan hockey program and head coach Pat Ferschweiler have announced the addition of 10 newcomers for the 2025-26 season, including four transfers and six freshmen. 

The Brown and Gold will open the season with an exhibition contest on Oct. 5 against the USNTDP at Lawson Arena. The regular season will begin on Oct. 9 at home against Ferris State. 

MEET THE TRANSFERS
#4 | Zaccharya Wisdom | Forward | Toronto, Ontario | Colorado College, NCHC
Wisdom spent the last two seasons with Colorado College, posting 41 points on 18 goals and 23 assists. Wisdom has been a threat on the power play, lighting the lamp five times on the man advantage is in his career. He also has four game-winning goals over the last two seasons. The Seattle Kraken draft pick also gets the job done in the classroom, as he is a two-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar Athlete. 

#6 | Theo Wallberg | Defenseman | Stockholm, Sweden | Ohio State, Big Ten
Wallberg joins the program after playing the last two seasons with Ohio State. In his time with the Buckeyes, Wallberg was able to produce 29 points on two goals and 27 assists. The Ottawa Senators draft pick has 70 blocked shots in his two-year career. In the classroom, he was an OSU Scholar-Athlete honoree. 

#18 | William Whitelaw | Forward | Rosemount, Minn. | Michigan, Big Ten
Whitelaw enters the mix after spending the last two seasons between Michigan (2024-25) and Wisconsin (2023-24). The Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick has proven to be quite the goal scorer, as he has 21 tallies in his two-year career. He's added 14 assists to go along with that. Whitelaw also won gold at the U17 Five Nations Tournament in 2021 and finished fifth at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2022.

#37 | Zach Bookman | Defenseman | Manlius, N.Y. | Merrimack, Hockey East
Bookman has been with Merrimack the last three seasons, securing 61 points on 11 goals and 50 assists with the Warriors. For his exceptional play, he was a Hobey Baker nominee in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. In his first year with the Warriors, Bookman earned the program's Rookie of the Year award. Defensively, Bookman has blocked 105 shots in his career. 

MEET THE FRESHMEN
#11 | Tyler MacKenzie | Forward | Red Deer Alberta | Everett Silvertips, WHL
MacKenzie has dominated the WHL over the last several seasons, spending the 2024-25 campaign with the Everett Silvertips. He served as an assistant captain and totaled 78 points on 33 goals and 45 assists last season. Prior to that, he was the captain of the Medicine Hat Tigers in 2023-24. During that season, he tallied 47 points on 16 goals and 31 assists. 

#12 | Sam Huck | Forward | Calgary, Alberta | Waterloo Black Hawks, USHL
Huck enters the program after an outstanding junior career between the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Okotoks Oilers. With Waterloo in 2024-25, the Canadian forward was able to collect 26 points on 16 goals and 10 assists. He added a goal and two assists in the playoffs as well. With the Oilers in 2023-24, he produced 81 points on 37 goals and 44 assists. 

#14 | Colby Woogk | Defenseman | Fort Worth, Texas | Tri-City Storm, USHL
Woogk has been one of the top defensemen in the nation over the last couple of years, spending the 2024-25 season with Tri-City and the 2023-24 season with the Minot Minotauros. With the Storm last season, he was able to collect 22 points on six goals and 16 assists. In the year prior, he tallied 39 points on 18 goals and 21 assists. That helped him become a finalist for the Defenseman of the Year award. He was also named to the NAHL All-Central Team. 

#19 | Bobby Cowan | Forward | Edina, Minn. | Madison Capitols, USHL
Cowan is one of the most exciting young players in the nation, joining the program after spending just one season in the USHL. With the Capitols in 2024-25, he was able to collect 51 points on 22 goals and 29 assists. He is one of the top players from Minnesota, spending his high school career with Edina. Over his last two high school seasons, Cowan totaled 83 points on 41 goals and 42 assists. 

#26 | Jamison Sluys | Forward | Point Roberts, Wash. | Youngstown Phantoms, USHL
Sluys has been a big-time point producer over the last two years in the USHL. He spent the 2024-25 season between the Youngstown Phantoms and Omaha Lancers. He was an assistant captain for the Lancers before being traded to Youngstown. With those two teams, he was able to collect 58 points on 16 goals and 42 assists. The year before, he totaled 41 points on 14 goals and 27 assists with Omaha. 

#35 | Gavin Moffatt | Goalie | Darien, Conn. | Green Bay Gamblers, USHL
Moffat joins the program after spending the last three seasons between the Green Bay Gamblers and the Wisconsin Windigo. In two seasons with the Gamblers, Moffatt collected 32 victories and three shutouts. In the 2022-23 season with the Windigo, he had a 2.00 goals against average and .938 save percentage to go along with five shutouts and 21 victories.
