KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's basketball team and head coach Kate Achter have announced the hiring of Andrea Cecil to the position of Assistant Coach.
Cecil follows Achter from Detroit Mercy, where she started as the Director of Operations in July of 2022 and was then promoted to Assistant Coach in July of 2023, helping UDM reach its first winning season since 2017. She helped coach All-Horizon League selections Emaia O'Brien and Aaliyah McQueen, as well as All-Freshman selection Kailey Starks.
"I am so excited that Andrea is coming to Kalamazoo, said Achter. "She is a rising star in our business and has been instrumental in helping teams find success. Plainly said, she is a winner that I know our players will love to be around. I am thrilled to be a part of her continued growth, and I am really looking forward to watching her impact here."
Cecil played three years at Bowling Green, earning Third Team All-MAC honors as a junior before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast after suffering an injury during her senior season. In five seasons total, she played in 144 career games and scored 1,107 points.
Cecil earned a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science from Bowling Green in 2020 and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Florida Gulf Coast in 2022.
