Track and Field Continues Outdoor Season with Trio of Meets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team continues its outdoor season this weekend with a trio of meets. The Broncos will be competing at the Penn Relays, Clark Wood Open and GVSU Extra Weekend.

THROWS GROUP DOMINATES
The WMU throws group has had a great 2025 season and that continued last weekend at the Gibson Invitational. Tess Van Dyk and Bri'Yanna Robinson were each able to post top-10 marks in school history.

Van Dyk moved into sixth all time in shot put, earning a throw of 14.77 meters. Not to be outdone, Robinson pushed into eighth all-time in the discus with a mark of 48.20 meters. Both throwers rank in the top 10 in the shot put and discus. Robinson also has a top-10 mark in the hammer throw.

SUPER SONIYA
Soniya Jones has been one of the most consistent runners in the program since joining the Broncos prior to the 2024 season. Her senior season has been outstanding and her last outing was one of her best. She moved into fifth all-time in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in a time of 11.87. That is currently the 12th best time in the MAC this season.

AVA'S DAZZLING DEBUT
Ava Kurczewski had never run the 3K steeplechase prior to the Spartan Invite on April 5. She didn't disappoint, earning the fifth best time in school history, winning the event with a time of 10:49.69. She won the race by more than four seconds.

Entering this weekend, Kurczewski has the fourth best time in the MAC this season. WMU has the defending MAC champion in the event in Kayla Schiera. Schiera made the NCAA Championships last season, earning Second Team All-American honors.
