Dylan Nevar Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND – Dylan Nevar of the Western Michigan baseball team has been named the MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Nevar is the fifth different WMU student-athlete to earn the award during the 2024-25 academic year, joining Jen Blitchok (women's soccer), Logan Case (volleyball), Anton Arzhankin (men's tennis) and Hayden Wolff (football).

An Electric Engineering major with a 3.90 GPA, Nevar had an outstanding week at the plate, putting together three multi-hit games on the way to a .500 average (8-for-16) with four runs scored and eight RBIs to help the Broncos go 4-0.

Named an Academic All-American in 2024, the program's first in nearly 30 years, Nevar opened the week with three hits, including a home run, and drove in four in Tuesday's win at Michigan. He had three more RBIs in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against Akron, including a two-run single in the sixth inning which pushed him past former Major Leaguer Matt Mieske for Western Michigan's all-time record for career RBIs. He then closed out the week with another multi-hit effort on Saturday as WMU finished off a weekend sweep of Akron.

Nevar and the Broncos take their five-game winning streak on the road this weekend as they head down to Oxford for a three-game MAC series against Miami. First pitch for Friday's series opener is scheduled for 3 pm.
