CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its specialty awards and All-Conference teams for men's basketball on Wednesday, with Western Michigan junior guard
Chansey Willis Jr. earning a place on the All-MAC Second Team. Willis becomes the first Bronco to be named to the All-MAC Second Team since Thomas Wilder in 2016.
Willis has been a model of consistency for the Broncos, scoring in double-figures in 21 of the 23 contests he's played in, and netting 20 or more points in eight games. In addition to his 17.0 points per game, the junior is averaging 5.8 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals this season for the Brown and Gold.
The Detroit native took things up a notch in conference play, ranking second in the MAC in both scoring (17.5 PPG) and assists (5.8), while also ranking among the league leaders in steals (1.8, 4th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7, 7th). Willis saved some of his best performances for the biggest moments, including a career-high 34 points and career-high tying eight assists in a critical win over Ohio in the final weeks of the regular season. His performance against the Bobcats helped him to Co-Player of the Week honors on March 3. Willis also made the go-ahead free throw in the final seconds of last Friday's win at Bowling Green which punched WMU's ticket to the Mid-American Conference Tournament for the second consecutive year.
Sixth-seeded Western Michigan begins its run at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday evening as it takes on No. 3 Kent State in the quarterfinals. Tip between the Broncos and Golden Flashes is slated for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the third quarterfinal of the day between No. 2 Miami and No. 7 Eastern Michigan. The game will be broadcast on
ESPN+.
