Spitzley Named to All-MAC Third Team and All-Defensive Team; Asensio Earns Honorable Mention

CLEVELAND -- Western Michigan women's basketball graduate student Hannah Spitzley has been named Third Team All-Mid-American Conference and to the MAC All-Defensive Team. Junior guard Maria Asensio received All-MAC Honorable Mention.

Spitzley earns All-MAC and All-Defensive Team honors for the first time in her career. The Westphalia, Mich., native averaged 15.2 points per game, along with 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 18 conference games. Spitzley also clocked 34.0 minutes per game and reached double-figures in points in 15 of the 18 games. She shot 48.9 percent from the field (93-of-190) and 33 percent from three (31-of-94). Spitzley logged one double-double in MAC play, a 14-point, 10-rebound performance in the 41-38 win over Toledo.

Spitzley is now just the third Bronco to be named to the MAC All-Defensive team, joining Kaitlyn Zarycki (2023-24) and Deja Wimby (2016-17, 2018-19) since the honor was started during the 2016-17 season.

In her first season in the MAC, Asensio averaged 13.7 points per game, 4.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds. She shot 41.3 percent (85-of-206) and 38 percent (41-of-108) from three. The Sabadell, Spain, native averaged 35 minutes per game and scored in double figures in 14 of the 18 MAC games. She had a high of 26 in a win at Akron.

Western Michigan opens the 2025 MAC Tournament on Wednesday at 11 a.m. against top-seeded Ball State. The game can be watched live on ESPN+ and heard live on the Bronco Media Network.
