WMU (10-14, 6-7 MAC) was down by 10 heading into the fourth quarter and cut the lead down to five after
Alli Harness split a pair of free throws to make it 62-57 Falcons with 3:37 to play. Both teams were scoreless over the next two minutes until BGSU's Lexi Fleming split a pair of free throws to extend the lead to 63-57. Johnea Donahue made two more free throws to push the lead to eight before
Marina Asensio cut it back to six with 50 seconds remaining.Â
From there the Falcons hit their free throws to keep WMU at bay.Â
Hannah Spitzley led all scorers with 17 and also had a team-high six rebounds.
Marina Asensio had 13 points and seven assists, while
D'Myjah Bolds tied her career-high with 11 points on the bench and set a new career-best mark in blocked shots with four.Â
BGSU started off hot and quickly put the Broncos in an early hole, leading 26-10 after the first quarter. WMU cut into the lead with 21 points in the second quarter, going to the locker room at the half down by 11, 42-31.Â
Western Michigan is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m., taking on rival Central Michigan on the road.Â
