Boyer Collects Defensive Player of the Week Award

CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior libero Reeghan Boyer has been named the MAC Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. Boyer is the fourth different Bronco to earn a MAC weekly honor this season.

In her final home matches as a Bronco over the weekend, Boyer totaled 34 digs (5.67/set) and went a perfect 11-for-11 in serve receive to help WMU to a weekend sweep of Kent State. The senior collected a match-high 20 digs on Friday, and then celebrated her Senior Day with a match-high 14 more on Saturday.

Boyer's big defensive weekend jumped her into the league's top-10 in digs per set at 3.14. In MAC matches, the Downers Grove, Ill., native ranks sixth in the conference with 3.81 digs per set. With Boyer anchoring the defense as the libero, WMU ranks third in NCAA Division I in total digs (1,925) and eighth nationally in digs per set (17.34).

Western Michigan wraps up the regular season this week with a two-match series at Ohio. First serve for the series opener between the Broncos and Bobcats is slated for Thursday at 6 pm.
