Track and Field Resumes Indoor Season at Meyo Invitational

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team will resume its indoor season on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. The Broncos have competed at the Meyo Invitational each of the last three seasons. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Broncos had a strong outing, splitting time between the Hoosier Horsepower Classic and Gerry England Invitational. Jade Celestine was able to win the 60-meter hurdles at the Gerry England Invitational, while Sandra Ferrari finished third in the event at the Hoosier Horsepower Classic. Mabinty Kebe placed third in the 400-meter dash to cap off a great day for the sprints, hurdles and jumps group. 

Distance wise, Lillian Zelasko collected fifth place in the 3K, posting a time of 9:51.95. Western Michigan then went on to place four in the top five of the 5K. Brooke Soper was second, Larissa McGrath took third, Lauren Sancrant placed fourth and Grace Aurand finished in fifth. 

On the throws side, Bri'Yanna Robinson (3rd), Tess Van Dyk (5th) and Lane Hagens (7th) all finished in the top seven in the shot put. . Kennedy Hagens went on to finish fifth in the weight throw. 

AMONG THE NATION'S BEST
The Broncos have had a strong start to the indoor season, and that is reflected in the latest regional and national rankings. As a team, Western Michigan checked in at No. 26 in the Great Lakes Region. WMU is just under seven points away from the top 25. 

Nationally, the quartet of Brooke Soper, Larissa McGrath, Lauren Sancrant and Grace Aurand has the 5,000-meter run group ranked No. 19 in the nation. The group has an average time of 18:09.00. Along with that, the 60-meter hurdles group is ranked 41st nationally. That group is made up of Sandra Ferrari, Mabinty Kebe, Angel Pratt and Jade Celestine. They average a time of 8.80, which is the top mark in the Mid-American Conference.
