UNITED STATES -- After a 3-1 win over #14 University of Vermont last Thursday and a 1-0 road victory over #9 University of New Hampshire Sunday, the Western Michigan men's soccer team made an impressive debut at number five in the United Soccer Coaches first poll of the season.
With their number five ranking, the Broncos climbed into the top-five in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the first time since the 2017 season.
En route to their top-five ranking in the poll, WMU knocked off #9 UNH behind a shutout from goalkeeper
Colin Welsh and a goal from
Connor Burkett this past Sunday. In the win, WMU head coach
Chad Wiseman secured victory 125 with the Brown and Gold and tied Blake Glass (1983-1997) for the most coaching wins in program history. Additionally, with wins over #14 Vermont (Last Thursday) and #9 UNH, WMU extended its remarkable program-record unbeaten streak to 23 games without a loss.
This week, the Broncos will look to claim a variety of program feats highlighted by Coach Wiseman looking to claim sole possession of WMU men's soccer's all-time coaching crown this Friday, August 30, when the Brown and Gold returns to WMU Soccer Complex to host Akron University. In conjunction with Coach Wiseman's all-time wins record, the men's soccer team is at the cusp of a new program best positioning in the United Soccer Coaches poll: The Broncos peak position in the poll was number four, which occurred in the 2017 season.
