KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan senior gymnast
Amanda Gruber has been recognized as a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient for the 2023-24 academic year.
Gruber receives $10,000 toward the pursuit of an advanced degree in graduate or professional school. The NCAA wards 42 total postgraduate scholarships during the season, with 21 men and 21 women being honored. The student-athletes are evaluated on academics, athletics and community service.
"For the last five years Amanda has been both an exceptional student and gymnast for our program," said head coach Penny Jernigen. "Her work ethic and desire to improve has been instrumental in our success and we are so very proud of her. We know that she will continue to push herself to be the very best she can be. Earning this prestigious scholarship is the perfect way to kickoff the pursuit of her new dream, a career in the medical field."
Gruber wrapped up her career at Western Michigan this season, helping the Broncos win the MAC Tournament Championship for the first time since 2013. This season she was also named Second Team All-MAC on beam and to the MAC All-Tournament team after she won a MAC title on the event. She was also named to the MAC All-Tournament Team in 2022 and 2023. Gruber is also tied for the program record on beam, with a 9.950 at Michigan State back in 2022.
Academically, she graduated with honors with a degree in biomedical sciences and recently earned a graduate certificate in Holism & Contemplative Health. She is a three-time Academic All-MAC selection and has helped the Broncos post the highest GPA in the MAC in the sport, and seventh-highest in the nation. She plans to attend Physician Assistant's School in 2025.
