GROVE CITY, Ohio – Western Michigan sophomore Megha Vallabhaneni finished tied for eighth overall at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship at Pinnacle Golf Club on Tuesday.
Vallabhaneni's finish is the highest for a Bronco since Jasmine Chee tied for fifth back in 2017. The Northview, Mich., native finished off the tournament with a 78, for a 54-hole total of 230 (+14). She finished with a tournament-best 39 pars and also had two birdies. This also marks the second-straight year that the sophomore has been WMU"s top finisher at the MAC Championship.
Sophomore Jenna Hayes just missed finishing in the top 20 by one stroke. After an 81 in the final round, she finished with a 240 (+24). Just behind her was graduate student Alissa Fish. Fish, in her final tournament as a Bronco, finished with a 242 (+26) after a final round of 242. Freshmen Isabella Brooks and Macy Beeson rounded out WMU's lineup. Brooks shot a 251 (+35), and Beeson a 253 (+253).
As a team, the Broncos shot a final round of 326 for a 54-hole total of 963 (+99), finishing in ninth place. Kent State on the tournament, with Toledo in second place and Northern Illinois in third. KSU's Hester Sicking and Leon Takagi tied for the medalist.
