PORTAGE, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's golf team had a strong outing at its home tournament as they sit in first place both as a team and on the individual leaderboard.
Senior
Megha Vallabhaneni leads all 41 golfers after two rounds of play at the WMU Broncos Fall Classic on Monday. The Broncos main team also sits in first place after shooting 301-302 (+27) on the day. Vallabhani is only a stroke above par after 36-holes for Western Michigan as she carded under par in the second round with a score of 70 (-2).
Through two rounds the Brown and Gold have four players in the Top 20 in freshman
Danielle Daniy, sophomore
Saanvi Venkatesh, and sophomore
Lauren Lupinek. Dainy is tied for 10
th overall after carding 75-79 (+10) on day one. In her first tournament of the season, Venkatesh had a strong showing with a round one score of 78 and a round two score of 77 to end the day tied for 12
th place at 11 over par. Lupienk rounds out the WMU players in the top 20 with scores of 80-76 (+12) to be tied for 16
th.
Junior
Bella Brooks rounded out the team score for the Broncos, finishing just outside the Top 20 in a tie for 22
nd place. Brooks carded 73-85 (+14) in her first day of play. Western Michigan also had four individual players compete in its home tournament. Junior
Macy Beeson tied for 24
th after a day of 83-76 (+15) play and was closely followed by freshman
Lea Lemieux in 29
th at 18 over par with rounds of 80-82.
Seniors
Jenna Hayes and
Kailey White were the last two players competing on Monday for WMU. Hayes ended her first day carding 86-83 (+25) while White had a first day of 89-87 (+32). The Brown and Gold wrap up their home tournament on Tuesday morning. Tee off is set for 9:00 a.m. but is weather-dependent.
