CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced Thursday that 54 student-athletes were named to the 2023-24 Women's Basketball Academic All-MAC Team. Of the 54 recipients, Broncos
Megan Wagner,
Artemis Kouki,
Hannah Spitzley, and
Gabi Saxman were awarded Academic All-MAC honors.
The senior Wagner, majoring in supply chain management, posted a fantastic 4.0 GPA in the classroom. Wagner on the court shot 30.8% from the three-point line, marking her second-best season beyond the arch in a Bronco uniform. The senior was third on the team in assists with 44 and improved her career total to 220. With her 44 assists during the 2023-24 campaign, Wagner needs 10 more assists to claim the 17th most assists in program history.
Pursuing a Human Resource Management degree, redshirt sophomore Kouki excelled in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA. This past semester, Kouki saw a career year on the court posting personal bests across the board: Kouki would see career highs in field goals made, three-point field goals made, and free throws made.
Spitzley, majoring in Exercise Science, performed exceptionally on the court and in the classroom, after earning a 3.83 GPA this past fall. Spitzley saw a career year on the court after making a personal-best 39 three-pointers from beyond the arch. Enroute to her 39 treys, she also shot a career-best 31.71% from three on 4.3 attempts.
Saxman, pursuing an Early Childhood Education degree, earned a 3.79 GPA in the classroom during the first semester. The senior snatched 43 steals during the 2023-24 campaign, marking her second-highest steals output in a single season. Saxman's 43 steals in 2023-24 propelled the senior to a career total of 128 swipes, which ranks 19th all-time in WMU women's basketball history.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
