KALAMAZOO, Mich. – In conjunction with the rest of the Mid-American Conference, the reigning MAC champion Western Michigan volleyball team announced its 2024 league schedule on Wednesday.
The MAC is going away from divisions for 2024, but each team will once again play 18 conference matches, nine home and nine away. The Broncos captured the 2023 regular season title by going a perfect 18-0 in league play, becoming the first team to go undefeated in MAC play since 2014 and the first to go 18-0 in the conference since 1993. WMU then went on to host and win the 2023 MAC Tournament Championship.
Western Michigan begins the defense of its crown on Sept. 27-28 at University Arena as it welcomes in Buffalo for a two-match series. The Broncos went 14-0 at home in 2023 and have won 17 straight contests on their home court dating back to the end of the 2022 campaign.
From Oct. 4-5, WMU hits the road for the first time in conference play as it heads to Bowling Green for a rematch of last year's thrilling five-set MAC Championship match. The Broncos return home the following week to face Ohio (Oct. 10) and Kent State (Oct. 11).
Western Michigan then plays four of its next five contests on the road, beginning with in-state foes Central Michigan (Oct. 17) and Eastern Michigan (Oct. 18). The Broncos welcome Northern Illinois to Kalamazoo on Oct. 22 before heading to Akron from Oct. 24-25.
The Broncos begin the month of November at home as Toledo comes to town on Nov. 1-2. After a midweek contest at NIU (Nov. 5), Western Michigan returns to University Arena for its final home matches of the regular season against Miami (Nov. 8-9). WMU then closes out the regular season with a trip to Ball State (Nov. 15-16).
The format for the 2024 MAC Volleyball Championship will remain the same as in previous years, with the top-six teams in the regular season squaring off on the campus of the league's regular season champion. The dates for the 2024 MAC Championship will be announced at a later date.
