YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team improved to 2-0 in Mid-American Conference competition after defeating Eastern Michigan, 195.800-195.325, at the Gervin GameAbove Center on Friday night.
Amanda Gruber picked up an event win for the Broncos after posting a 9.900 on beam, while Cassie St. Clair tied for first on vault with a 9.850. Payton Murphy tied for first in the all-around after a 39.325.
The Broncos had a strong showing on vault. In addition to St. Clair, Murphy and junior Halle Faulkner tied for third with 9.825's. Murphy also had a second-place finish on beam behind Gruber, with a 9.875.
On floor, Murphy picked up another second-place finish after a 9.850. Right behind her was St. Clair with a 9.825 and tied for fourth was Gruber with a 9.800.
Sophomore Abby Singh was WMU's top finisher on bars with a 9.825.
Western Michigan stays on the road, heading to Northern Illinois next Friday for an 8 p.m. EST start.
