Andelyn Simkins have been selected to the AVCA North All-Region First Team, it was announced on Tuesday.
Case earned All-Region accolades for the fourth time in her career and was a First Team honoree for the second straight year. The Maineville, Ohio, native picked up four MAC Setter of the Week awards on the way to being named to the All-MAC First Team for the fifth consecutive season. This season, she ranks second in NCAA Division I in both total assists (1,379) and assists per set (11.79). Case's distribution helped Western Michigan lead the conference in team assists per set (13.17, 10th in NCAA DI) and kills pet set (13.79, 27th nationally).
Already WMU's all-time leader in assists entering the 2024 campaign, Case continued to rewrite the record books this fall, and on Oct. 25 at Akron, she became the first Bronco and third player in league history to reach 6,000 career assists. In the MAC Tournament Championship Match against Ball State, she became the Mid-American Conference's all-time leader in assists while helping the Brown and Gold secure their second straight tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth. Case closed out her career with 6,476 assists, which rank as the fifth-most in NCAA Division I history.
Simkins picked up All-Region accolades for the first time in her career. A native of nearby Schoolcraft, Mich., she was a three-time MAC Defensive Player of the Week award winner during the regular season on the way to being selected the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-MAC First Team for the second consecutive year. Simkins led the conference in total digs (562, 20th nationally) and was second in digs per set (4.80, 38th nationally) this fall while helping the Broncos top the league in team digs per set (16.57, 36th nationally).
Like Case, Simkins also made her mark on both the Western Michigan and Mid-American Conference record books this season. On Oct. 17 at Central Michigan, she became just the fourth player in WMU history to reach 2,000 career digs. She finished her career with 2,262 digs, the fourth-most in program history and eight-most in MAC history.
Case and Simkins now advance to consideration for the AVCA All-America Teams. The AVCA is set to announce those honors later this month.
