KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team opened the 2024 season with a 194.300-193.575 win over Eastern Michigan in front of 809 fans at University Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Cassie St. Clair tied for first place on both vault and floor to lead the Broncos. On vault she scored a 9.875, tying with EMU's Raisa Boris. WMU's Sarah Moravansky finished in third place with a 9.850, while fifth-year senior Josie Thomas tied for fourth in her first official meet since 2022.
On floor, St. Clair scored a 9.900, her sixth 9.900 in her career in the event, and once again tied with Boris. Donnakathryn Roy took third place with a 9.825, with Ally Schaupp in fourth at 9.775. Roy tied for third on bars, with a 9.750, and sophomore Abby Singh and Dani Petrousek finished right behind her in a tie for fifth with 9.700s.
Fifth-year senior Amanda Gruber was the Broncos' top finisher on beam, taking third place with a 9.800. Freshman Hannah Milton took fourth place in her first collegiate meet with a 9.750.
Western Michigan heads on the road to the University of Illinois to take on the Illini, West Virginia and University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 3 p.m.
