KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team picked up its first Mid-American Conference win of the season after defeating Bowling Green 196.425-194.825 on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos improved their season-best team score for the third straight meet. Individually, WMU picked up wins on vault, by Payton Murphy, and floor, by Amanda Gruber.
Murphy earned a score of 9.875, tying her career-high, to take the top spot on vault. Halle Faulkner, in her first action this season, took second place with a 9.850. Abby Singh and Sarah Moravansky tied for fourth with 9.775's.
Singh, Moravansky and Breckin Quoss all tied for second on bars with a 9.850. It was a new career-high mark for Quoss and tied the career-best mark for Singh. Dani Petrousek finished just behind the trio with a score of 9.825.
On beam, Murphy took second place with a 9.875, while Amanda Gruber finished in fourth with a 9.825.
Gruber then went on to get a 9.950 on floor to win the event. She earned her first career 10 on floor and then had a 9.900 from the second judge. Junior Ally Schaupp turned in another personal-best performance, taking second with a 9.900. Cassie St. Clair finished right behind her with a season-best score of 9.875, while Petrousek and Donnakathryn Roy finished with 9.825's.
The Broncos continue MAC competition next Friday at Eastern Michigan, with a 6 p.m. start.
