Gymnastics Opens MAC Competition Hosting Bowling Green on Sunday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team welcomes Bowling Green on Sunday at 1 p.m. for its first Mid-American Conference meet of the season.
 
The meet will be streamed live on www.wmubroncos.com/watch and live scoring is available at www.WMUStats.com.
 
LAST WEEK
 The Broncos went to Kellogg Arena for the Next Level Podium Challenge, defeating both Illinois State and George Washington after a season-best score of 196.125. The team also had season-highs on bars (48.975), beam (48.925), and floor (49.300).

UPWARD TRAJECTORY
The Broncos have seen their team score go up in each of the three meets they have competed at this season. WMU opened with a 194.300 in its win over Eastern Michigan and then saw the team total jump up to 196.000 at the Illinois Quad Meet. Last weekend, Western Michigan pushed its score up to 196.125, now giving the team a NQS of 195.475
  
WINNING WAYS
Fifth-year senior Payton Murphy tied for first place at last weekend's Next Level Podium Challenge in three events. Her 9.850 tied her for the top spot on bars, she was in a three-way tie on beam with a 9.850 and her season-best floor score of 9.925 tied her for the top mark. Murphy also claimed her first win in the all-around this season after a 39.450.

WE MEET AGAIN
Western Michigan heads on the road next week to take on EMU for the second time this season. WMU's season-opening win over the Eagles was a non-conference victory, with next Friday's contest factoring into the MAC standings.
