KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan redshirt junior Jacob Gideon has been named to the 2023 Rimington Trophy Watch List.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football. Since its inception, the award has raised over $5 million for the Boomer Esiason Foundation.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman. Gideon started every game at center last season until suffering a season-ending injury in the victory in the snow at Central Michigan. The Union, Ky., native helped produce 1,000-yard rusher Sean Tyler in just his first season at center after previously playing guard.
Gideon is the top-rated center in the Mid-American Conference according to Pro Football Focus and is the lone representative from the MAC on the Rimington Trophy Watch List.
