THE BATTLE FOR THE VICTORY CANNON
Saturday is the 96th meeting between Western Michigan and Central Michigan. The historic rivalry returns to a Saturday for the first time since 2019. Tickets are going fast but still available at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.

After falling at CMU last season, WMU's all-time lead of the series now sits at 53-39-2. The Broncos are 10-4 in the rivalry since 2011.

This is also the 18th Battle for the Victory Cannon. The Broncos have won the trophy 10 times to the Chippewas 7. The Victory Cannon Trophy was established as a nod to both WMU and CMU's ROTC programs that shoot off a cannon after its team scores.

ANOTHER TROPHY
Saturday also begins WMU's quest for the Michigan MAC Trophy. The Michigan MAC Trophy was created in 2005 by the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, given to the winner of the series between WMU, CMU and EMU. Western Michigan has won the trophy nine times and retained it last season after each team went 1-1. In the event of a tie, the trophy goes to the current holder, which was WMU. CMU is already 1-0, having defeated Eastern Michigan 24-13 back on Sept. 27 in Mount Pleasant.

INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
Western Michigan senior running back Devin Miles earned himself a spot in WMU Football History in last week's game at Miami. Miles broke the single-game kick return yards record after accumulating 218. The junior college transfer had returns of 35, 19, 72, 13, 41, 21, and 17. His 72-yard return helped set up WMU's second touchdown of the game and was a career high. His seven attempts also tied him for second all-time in a single game.

Miles bumps down Brandon West in the single-game rankings. West, also a running back, recorded 212 yards on five attempts back on Sept. 8, 2007 at Waldo Stadium against Indiana. His record-setting night included a 98-yard touchdown return.

FORMER WHAT NOW?
Three current Western Michigan Broncos once for the Maroon & Gold, beginning their college football careers at Central Michigan.

Senior cornerback Jarvarius Sims played in all 12 games in each of the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Chippewas before transferring to UCONN for 2024 and then joining WMU ahead of the 2025 season. At CMU he recorded 51 total tackles and had four pass breakups.

Senior tight end Cade Conley played in 10 games throughout the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In 2022 he caught 11 passes for 168 yards and then transferred to Marshall for the 2023 and 2024 seasons before joining the Broncos in January of 2025.

Senior safety Jayden Davis played in 14 games in the 2022-23 seasons, including 12 as a freshman, for the Chippewas. He recorded 45 tackles in those two seasons before heading to Idaho State and then on to Western Michigan.

DISCIPLINE
Through eight games this season, Western Michigan leads the MAC and ranks 10th in the nation in fewest penalty yards per game with 35.63. The season did not start that way for the Broncos. Through the first three games, WMU had committed 20 penalties for 161 yards (53.6 yards per game). Since then, the Broncos have been flagged 14 total times in the last five games for a total of 124 yards (24.8 yards per game).

Western Michigan had a season-low of two penalties in its 14-13 win over Toledo.
