Softball Inks Megan Welsh to 2023 Class

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University softball team and head coach Jenny Rohn announced the signing of outfielder/catcher Megan Welsh to the program's class of 2023.
 
A native of Mishawaka, Ind., Welsh excelled during her time at Harvard (2019-2023), starting 114 out of 120 games played. She maintained a strong .300 batting average and a .457 slugging percentage over her time at Harvard. In her senior season (2023), Welsh recorded a .325 batting average with 37 hits, including 5 doubles and 3 home runs (tied for the team's highest). She contributed to Harvard's victories as Ivy League Regular Season Champions in 2019 and 2023 and played a key role in winning the Ivy League Playoff Series against Columbia in 2019 and the inaugural Ivy League Tournament in 2023. She competed in the NCAA Tournament at the #6 Arizona Regional in 2019 and the #11 Arkansas Regional in 2023. Welsh was recognized as Ivy League Player of the Week and earned First Team All-Ivy League honors for the outfield. Additionally, she was named to the Ivy League All-Tournament Team in 2023 and received accolades as a NFCA Scholar-Athlete in 2018-2019 and 2021-2022, as well as being named to the CSC Academic All-District Team in 2023.
 
Welsh, a four-year utility player, and varsity letter winner at St. Joseph High School, was named First-team all-conference in 2017 and 2018, and Second-team all-state in 2017. As a captain during the 2017-18 season, Welsh was an Indiana Class 3A State Championship runner-up and semi-state champion in 2018. She led her senior season in numerous statistical categories and set school records for most home runs in a game and a single inning. Academically, Welsh was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society for two years. Additionally, she actively participated in various clubs and activities, including H.O.P.E, Intramural volleyball, Spanish Club, and the Spirit Club.
