KALAMAZOO – The Western Michigan University softball program and head coach Marlee Wilson have announced the hiring of Andrew Klaus as an assistant coach.

Klaus joins the Broncos with over a decade of coaching experience, including eight years as a head coach at the Division II level. Most recently he led the Franklin Pierce Ravens to their best season in program history during the 2026 campaign. Prior to his time in Rindge, Klaus had stops at Norfolk State, Lee, and East Central as an assistant coach.

For the past eight years Klaus was at the helm of the Franklin Pierce softball program. Over his tenure, Klaus led the Ravens to new heights including their first NE10 regular season title this past spring. While at Franklin Pierce, Klaus' team appeared in the NCAA Division II Regionals three times and reset the program win record on three separate occasions, including this past season with a 40-8 regular season record.

Klaus coached 3 NFCA All-Americans, 15 All-Regional selections, 28 NE10 All-Conference selections, two NE10 Players of the Year, and two NE10 Rookies of the Year. He was also named the NE10 Coach of the Year in 2021 after leading the Ravens to a then program best season of 21-9.

Before taking his first head coaching position, Klaus was an assistant coach at the Division I level. He spent the 2018 season with the Cleveland State Vikings after two successful seasons with the Norfolk State Spartans. At both institutions, Klaus mostly worked with the roster on hitting and infield play. While with the Spartans, he oversaw an improvement in the team's offensive output of over a run per game. Klaus also guided two Vikings to postseason honors on the All-Horizon Second Team in 2018.

Prior to his time at Norfolk State, Klaus spent a total of four years as an assistant coach at three different Division II institutions, overseeing hitting and the outfield at all three. He spent the 2015 season at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, where the Flames led the league in batting average. In 2013 and 2014, he was a graduate assistant at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and guided the Tigers to a pair of conference batting titles as well. Klaus began his collegiate coaching career in the 2012 season as a student assistant at his alma mater of Oklahoma Panhandle State University, in Goodwell, Oklahoma.

A 2011 graduate of Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a degree in education, Klaus was a four-year letterwinner in baseball for the Aggies, including a pair of All-Conference selections. He received his master's in sports administration from East Central University in 2014.
