KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan University women's basketball team and head coach
Shane Clipfell have announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the program's class of 2023.
WMU welcomes Kaiden Glenn (Ypsilanti, Mich.), Nile Mugira (Guernica, Spain), and Kaitlyn Zarycki (Niles, Mich.).
"We are very happy with the late additions to our roster. In the current basketball landscape, this will remain a vital recruiting process moving forward."
Kaiden Glenn • G • 5'10" • Ypsilanti, Mich. • Arbor Preparatory High School • Austin Peay
During her time at Austin Peay, Glenn helped lead the Governors to a 37-25 record, including its first postseason run to the semifinals of the ASUN conference against Florida Gulf Coast. In 23 appearances, Glenn averaged 8.3, 0.7 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. Academically, she was named to the Austin Peay Athletics Academic Honor Roll and Dean's List in Fall 2022 and Spring 2023. Alongside semester honors, Glenn was named to the 2023 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar First Team selected by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.
Prior to her college career, Glenn excelled at Arbor Preparatory High School. As a junior and senior, she was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Division 3 All-State Team. She received The Detroit News Second Team All-West honors in her junior year and a Fourth Team All-State honors in her senior year. Contributing significantly to her team's success, she averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3 steals per game, helping lead the Gators to a remarkable 19-5 record and their seventh-straight district title in the 2019-20 season. Academically, Glenn was named to the BCAM Academic All-State team in both her junior and senior seasons.
Coach Clipfell on Glenn: "Kaiden is coming back to Michigan to finish her academic and athletic career here as a Bronco. She brings us a versatile skill set with inside-outside scoring."
Nile Mugira • G • 5'6" • Guernica, Spain • Lointek Gernika Bizkaia Club
Mugira led Lointek Gernika Bizkaia to four Basque Championships in her seven years playing for the club. During her time with the club, she has qualified three times for the Basque Championship and four times for the Spanish Championship. Along with her four appearances at the Spanish Championship with the Basque team, she has been summoned twice by the Spanish National team.
Coach Clipfell on Mugira: "Nile will bring us some added scoring punch from the wing. She is very good in a pick-and-roll offense and has great range at the arc as well as some crafty playmaking ability off the bounce."
Kaitlyn Zarycki • G • 5'8" • Niles, Mich. • Edwardsburg High School • Saginaw Valley State
Recognized for her exceptional abilities on and off the court, Zarycki was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-American Third Team for the 2022-2023 season, solidifying her place among the top-15 student-athletes in Division II. She was also honored as the 2022-23 NCAA D2CCA Midwest Region Women's Basketball Player of the Year.
During her four seasons at SVSU, Zarycki played in 102 games, starting 92, and averaged 16.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. She was both a three-time First Team All-GLIAC and three-time GLIAC All-Defensive Team selection, and this past season was named the GLIAC Player of the Year. In 2019-20, Zarycki took home the conference's Freshman of the Year award and earned Second Team All-GLIAC accolades.
A four-sport athlete at Edwardsburg High School, Zarycki participated in basketball, track, volleyball and softball where she earned team MVP, first team all-conference and all-state honors in basketball. She holds the all-time scoring record at Edwardsburg High School.
Coach Clipfell on Zarycki: "The obvious thing she will provide for us is her ability to score the ball. The rest of what she will bring is a competitiveness to win and a work ethic to match that. She is a proven talent that will make an impact and we are very fortunate to have her on our team."
