COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced its final weekly awards for the 2022-23 regular season, with Western Michigan sophomore forward Max Sasson being named the Forward of the Week. 

Sasson was dominant in the two-game series at Miami (OH) this past weekend, notching five goals and two assists. The Birmingham, Mich. native finished the weekend +5. He lit the lamp three times on March 3 and two more times the following night. On Friday, he scored three straight goals to help the Broncos grab a 5-0 victory. The next day, Sasson was key in helping Western Michigan erase a 4-2 deficit late in the third period. Trailing by two goals, WMU pulled its goalie to gain the extra attacker. Sasson scored twice to send the game to overtime, where the Broncos would go on to claim a 5-4 victory. He was credited with the primary assist on the game-winning goal. 

Sasson's clutch play helped the Broncos secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NCHC Tournament. Second place is the highest NCHC finish in program history. Sasson had the team's first hat trick since Jason Polin notched his fifth of the season back in December in the championship game of the Great Lakes Invitational. On the year, Sasson is up to 39 points on 14 goals and 25 assists. 

WMU will host Colorado College in the opening round of the NCHC Tournament this weekend. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's game will begin at 6 p.m. If Sunday is needed, puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. All games can be streamed on NCHC.tv and heard on the Bronco Media Network.
