KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan hockey team completed its regular-season schedule this past weekend, earning a sweep at Miami (OH). The Broncos took care of business on March 3, defeating the RedHawks, 5-0. The following day, WMU was able to erase a 4-2 deficit and come back to win 5-4 in overtime.
WMU moved up one spot to No. 7 in the DCU/USCHO.com poll this week. Western Michigan leaped over fellow NCHC member St. Cloud State. In the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, WMU didn't have any movement, remaining at No. 8. Among the top 10, the NCHC had three teams. Devner was at No. 3 in both polls, while St. Cloud State checked in at No. 7 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and No. 8 in the DCU/USCHO.com poll.
Western Michigan will be back at home this weekend, hosting Colorado College in the opening round of the NCHC Tournament. WMU has won all four meetings so far this season. The winner of the best-of-three series will head to St. Paul, Minn. for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff, which is set for March 17-18 at Xcel Energy Center.
