LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up the first two rounds of play at the Falcon Florida Classic, hosted by Bowling Green at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club, on Monday. The Broncos sit in fifth place in the 12-team field after 36 holes.
WMU shot two sub-300 rounds on the day, opening with a 298 and finishing off with a 290 for a total of 588 (+12). The Broncos are just two shots out of fourth place, held by Illinois State. Northern Illinois leads at 564 (-12), followed by Idaho at 571 (-5) and Toledo at 578 (+2).
Western Michigan's
Alissa Fish,
Megha Vallabhaneni and
Natalie Samdal all sit in the top 20 heading into Tuesday's final round. Fish led the team with a pair of 73's and sits tied for 15th with a 146 (+2). Vallabhaneni and Samdal are both just one shot behind Fish at 147 (+3).
Haley Barclay shot a 149 (+5) and freshman
Jenna Hayes rounded out WMU's five with a 151 (+7).
Vallabhaneni had a team-best 28 pars on the day, while Fish had eight birdies and Barclay finished with seven.
