RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- The Western Michigan golf team wrapped up hosting the 20th annual Rio Verde Invitational at the Rio Verde Country Club's Quail Run Course on Sunday.
The Broncos placed two golfers in the top 25, with graduate student Alissa Fish and freshman Megha Vallabhaneni finishing in an 11-golfer tie for 23rd with a 54-hole score of 227 (+11). Fish finished the tournament with a final round of 77, while Vallabhaneni finished with a 76. Freshman Jenna Hayes was WMU's third finisher, wrapping up with 76 for a three-day total of 231 (+15). Natalie Samdall ended with a 245 (+29) and Haley Barclay with a 248 (+48) to finish up WMU's five.
Fish led the Broncos with 37 pars on the weekend, followed by Vallabhanenin with 35.
As a team, the Broncos finished in 16th with a 54-hole total of 928 (+64). There were just 10 strokes separating ninth place and 16th. Xavier won the tournament, leading from the opening round. XU's Emma McMyler also claimed the individualist medal after finishing with a 217 (+1) and defeating Central Michigan's Casil Allendesalazar in a playoff.
Western Michigan makes the long trek out to the island of O'ahu, Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational March 6-7.
