WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A week after setting a new program record, the Western Michigan gymnastics team nearly tied it after turning in a 196.725 to finish at the top in a five-team meet at George Washington on Friday night.
Senior Payton Murphy also broke her program record in the all-around for a second time this season, finishing with a 39.525. WMU also broke its program bars record after posting a 49.325.
The Broncos had first-place finishes on bars, beam and floor. Donnakathryn Roy and Sarah Moravansky tied for first place on bars with 9.900's. Abby Singh and Murphy also had strong showings with 9.850's in the record-setting performance. Amanda Gruber and Murphy tied for first place on beam with scores of 9.900. Gigi Singh finished with a 9.825, while Moravansky had a 9.775 to highlight the event. Murphy also tied for first on floor with a 9.925, matching GWU's Kendall Whitman. Cassie St. Clair had a 9.900, while Dani Petrousek finished with a 9.850.
Murphy and Moravansky were WMU's top finishes on vault, completing the event in a six-way tie for third with scores of 9.850.
Western Michigan is back in action next Saturday at 4 p.m., hosting Northern Illinois for Senior Day. It's the final home meet for the Broncos this season, with tickets available now at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets. The meet will also be streamed live on ESPN+.
