KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The records continue to fall for the Western Michigan women's gymnastics team. A week after setting a new team floor record, the Broncos broke the program's all-time team score record with a 196.750 in a win over Central Michigan at University Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The previous program-best was set last season at Michigan State, with WMU turning in a 196.725. The record was a total team effort, with Broncos, from top to bottom, performing well in all four events. Cassie St. Clair tied for first on vault with a 9.850 and tied with for first on floor with teammate Payton Murphy both finishing with 9.900's.
Western Michigan had season-best team performances on vault (49.075), bars (49.125) and beam (49.200). Abby Singh and Sarah Moravansky both had 9.825's on vault, with Halle Faulkner scoring at 9.800 and Murphy at 9.775. Ronni Binstock had a 9.725 to round out WMU's field. Murphy and Moravansky were the top Broncos on bars, both scoring at 9.850. Donnakathyrn Roy had a 9.825, while Singh and Dani Petrousek had 9.800's.
Moravansky had the top score for WMU on beam with a 9.900, while Amanda Gruber had a 9.875 and was followed by Binstock at 9.850 and Murphy at 9.800. Binstock also had a strong performance on floor, scoring a 9.875 along with Roy.
Western Michigan takes a break from Mid-American Conference competition and heads to Washington D.C. to take on George Washington, along with Fisk, Ursinus and Bowling Green on Friday at 7 p.m.
