WMU Hosts BGSU in Saturday Battle

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –  The Western Michigan women's basketball team is set to host Bowling Green for a noon tip-off at University Arena on Saturday, Feb. 18. The Broncos will bring together former players to celebrate the program's history and achievements with Alumni Day. In addition to the women's game, the day will also feature a doubleheader with the men's basketball team.

THE FALCONS (22-3, 11-2 MAC) 
The Falcon's 11-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, with an 85-81 loss to Northern Illinois. The streak was tied for the 11th-longest in school history. Five falcons scored double digits, including Nyla Hampton, who had a team-high 17 points. She also had a career-high seven rebounds, three assists, and game-high five steals. Allison Day and Lexi Fleming scored 15 points apiece. Elissa Brett tallied 11 and Amy Velasco 10. BGSU went 5-of-28 for 17.9 percent from the arc with 36 rebounds. Bowling Green committed 13 turnovers and forced NIU into 22. 
 
The Bowling Green Women's basketball team is a scoring powerhouse, with an impressive average of 80.4 points per game, while their opponents only score 63.6 giving them a comfortable scoring margin of 16.8. The team boasts a solid field goal percentage of 45.6 and a three-point percentage of 34.4. Their free throw percentage is 71.1. On the defensive side, BGSU collects 37.2 rebounds per game, distributes 17.2 assists, takes 11.2 steals, and records 2.3 blocks per game. The Falcons are effective at creating turnovers, ranked second in the nation in turnover margin at 8.76 and eighth in assist/ turnover ratio at 1.38. Overall, the team shows strength both offensively and defensively and is a top contender in the league.

Western Michigan enters Wednesday's matchup, coming off a 75-44 loss against the top-ranked Toledo. Lauren Audino led the scoring with 13 points, grabbing three rebounds, two steals, and one block. Taylor Williams followed just being with 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Maggie Stutelberg added seven points and Hannah Spitzley tallied four points. Western Michigan shot 7-of-53 from the field a shooting percentage of 32.1. Beyond the arc, shooting just 4-for-28 for 14.3 percent from the three-point range. The free throw line was a bright spot for the team, as they shot 6-for-10 for 60 percent. 

The Western Michigan women's basketball team scores an average of 63.4 points per game but allows opponents to score 69.8 points per game, resulting in a scoring margin of -6.4. They have a field goal percentage of 38.6 and a three-point percentage of 25.9, while their free throw percentage is 66.5 percent. The team collects 31.6 rebounds per game and distributes 11.8 assists per game. They also grab 10 steals per game and 2.4 blocks per game. Additionally, the team ranks first in the conference for three-point attempts with an average of 26.5 and second in turnovers forced per game with 18.25.

ON THE HORIZON
The Western Michigan women's basketball team is set to face off against Ball State University on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The game will take place at 6:30 pm at Worthen Arena and can be streamed on ESPN+. Following their away game, the Broncos return home to University Arena to take on Ohio University for Senior Day. The matchup is scheduled for 2 pm and will feature a special tribute to the team's three senior players, Emily Flannery, Abby Voss, and Maddie Watters
