CLEVELAND – Western Michigan senior
Payton Murphy has been named the Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week after her performance in WMU's meet against Eastern Michigan last Sunday.
Murphy had a record-setting day in the victory over the Eagles. She broke her own school record in the all-around with a score of 39.500. She nearly had a perfect 10 on the floor, tying the program record with a 9.950. Her contribution on the floor led to a team floor record of 49.525. In addition to winning on floor and all-around, Murphy also took second on beam and tied for third on both bars and vault.
WMU also had a season-best meet score of 196.600, the second-highest in program history.
This is Murphy's second MAC Gymnast of the Week honors this season.
