KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics program and head coach Penny Jernigan are excited to announce the signings of Kennedy Cooper (Novi, Mich.), Reilan Garvey (St. John, Ind.) and Patricia Mills (Frederick, Md.) to National Letters of Intent.
The three will join the program in the fall of 2024.
"This trio is one of our most talented classes ever," said Jernigan. "All three are strong all-around gymnasts, who have proven themselves at the highest level of national competition. We expect them to make an immediate and lasting impact on our program next fall."
Cooper competed at the Michigan Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA), based out of Novi, Mich. She was a two-time USA Gymnastics National Qualifier in 2022 and 2023. Cooper was also a Level 10 Region 5 All-Around and Floor champion.
"Kennedy's athleticism is undeniable, but it's her drive and dedication to improving that has really impressed us," Jernigan said. "Fans are going to love watching her high-flying bars and exciting floor tumbling."
Garvey competed for United Gymnastics Academy, based out of Tinley Park, Ill. She was a 2023 USA Gymnastics National Qualifying on vault and a 2021 USA Gymnastics Illinois State Champion on floor.
"Reilan brings an indomitable will and an unmatched level of commitment to becoming the best she can be," added Jernigan. "She is a dynamic performer on every event and we can't wait to see her soar as a Bronco."
Mills competed for Frederick's Gymnastics in her home town. She is a three-time USA Gymnastics National Qualifier in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
"Tricia's got it all," said Jernigan. "She's a natural who possesses a rare combination of both power and elegance in her gymnastics. She will undoubtably be a top performer for us on multiple events next season."
