KENT, Ohio – The Western Michigan gymnastics team led through three rotations, but ultimately fell on the road at Kent State 195.925-195.425 on Sunday afternoon.
Individually, Broncos won on vault, bars and beam and tied on floor. Payton Murphy finished in first place with a 9.875 on bars and tied for first on floor with a 9.900. Sophomore Halle Faulkner finished at the top on vault with a score of 9.850, while Amanda Gruber turned in a score of 9.900 to win on beam.
Sarah Moravansky finished with a 39.225 in all-around, just missing out on the win behind KSU's Rachel DeCavitch and her score of 3.9275.
Western Michigan combined for a season-best score of 49.125 on floor to give it a lead of 146.925-146.700 heading into the final rotation. The Broncos were on beam and the Golden Flashes finished on floor. WMU combined for a score of 48.500, but KSU turned in a meet-high score of 49.225 thanks to two 9.900's by Karlie Franz and Alyssa Guns to push ahead of the Broncos.
Western Michigan continues its four-meet road swing, heading to N.C. State on Saturday for a tri-meet with the Wolfpack and the University of North Carolina at 4 p.m.
