BOWLING GREEN, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 195.925 to pick up a win on the road at Bowling Green on Friday evening.
The Falcons turned in a score of 195.050, but the Broncos were strong and consistent on the night, led by senior Payton Murphy. Murphy won on floor, beam and the all-around. Murphy's all-around score of 39.400 tied a career high.
"The team brought incredible energy to the meet tonight," said head coach Penny Jernigan. Our bars line up led us off strong and we carried that momentum into vault."
Murphy had WMU's top score in the 9.825 on the bars, followed by Sarah Moravansky with a 9.800. WMU combined for a 48.825 to head into the second rotation with the lead. Western Michigan posted a 49.075 in the vault, with four Broncos posting scores of 9.800 or higher, led by Moravansky's 9.850.
In the third rotation, Amanda Gruber set the tone with a career-high of 9.850 on floor, with Murphy winning the event with a 9.875. WMU entered the final rotation with the lead and made BGSU's comeback chances slim when senior Ronni Binstock led off on beam with a career-high 9.825. Gigi Singh scored a 9.725 in her only action of the night, with Gruber and Binstock both turning in scores of 9.825. Murphy won the event with a 9.875.
The Broncos continue their road swing and head to Kent State for another MAC matchup on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m.
