Gymnastics Opens MAC Competition at Bowling Green

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team continues its four-meet road stretch on Friday, opening Mid-American Conference competition at Bowling Green at 6 p.m.

The Broncos (1-1) are coming off their first loss of the season, falling on the road at Illinois State by just 0.250. Individually, Amanda Gruber and Payton Murphy each picked up individual wins. Gruber won on beam and had a career-high on floor, placing second. Murphy won the all-around for the first time this season.  

WMU enters Friday's meet ranked 44th in the country according to RoadToNationals.com. The team's best event has been beam so far, ranking 41st. The team's biggest improvement from week one to week two was on vault. The Broncos opened the season with a 48.550 and improved to 48.700 last weekend.  

The Falcons (0-4) rank 55th in the nation, with their top event being bars, at 44th. 

Western Michigan's road swing continues next Sunday, traveling to Kent State to take on the Golden Flashes at 1 p.m.
