Gymnastics Heads to Illinois State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan gymnastics team heads on the road for the first time this regular season, traveling to Illinois State to take on the Redbirds on Sunday at 3 p.m. EST.

The meet can be watched live on ESPN+, with live scoring at wmu.statbroadcast.com.

FAMILIAR FOES
The Broncos and the Redbirds faced off in Western Michigan's season-opening tri-meet, along with Wisconsin Oshkosh. WMU came away the victors with a score of 194.875, 2.25 better than ISU. Broncos also took the top spots on vault, bars, floor and all-around.

ROAD WARRIORS
Western Michigan will need to get comfortable competing on the road as the trip to Illinois State kicks off four straight on the road. WMU travels to Bowling Green to open MAC competition next Sunday and is then off to Kent State and North Carolina State before returning home to welcome Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.

"The energy from our team last Sunday was great. Every single gymnast was locked in on our team the entire meet. I especially loved their sincere enthusiasm for one another." – head coach Penny Jernigan on what pleased her about the team performance last week.

"This week we've been breaking in a new spring floor in the practice gym. We've focused primarily on controlled landings on every event." – Jernigan on the focus in practice this week.
