KEWADIN, Mich. – The Western Michigan golf team placed two in the top 10, including a seventh place finish by
Alissa Fish as the Broncos took third overall at the A-Ga-Ming Invitational at A-Ga-Ming's Sundance Course on Monday.
Fish finished with a 54-hole score of 224 (+8) after opening with a 74 and a 76 on Sunday and wrapping up the tournament with a 74 on Sunday. Davenport transfer
Natalie Samdal finished tied for 10th in her first tournament as a Bronco. Samdal opened with a 75 and a 77 before finishing off with a 75 to turn in a score of 227 (+11). Fish led the tournament in par four scoring at 4.00 and total pars at 40.
Western Michigan opened the tournament with a first round of 301, then shooting a 303 to complete Sunday's 36 holes. The Broncos then combined for a 306 for a 910 (+46), holding off Green Bay by two strokes and Eastern Michigan by three. The final score for the team was an all-time low under third-year head coach
Kim Moore.
Oakland won the tournament with an 897 (+33), followed by host Central Michigan at 900 (+36).
Freshman
Megha Vallabhaneni shot a 54-hole total of 229 (+13) in her first collegiate action, opening with a 77 and a 75 on Sunday and another 77 on Monday. Sophomore
Ally Barth finished just one shot behind her, while
Madeline Blum rounded out WMU's top five with a 250 (+34).
Western Michigan heads to the Ball State Cardinal Classic Sept. 19-20.
