SCHERERVILLE, Ind. – Western Michigan senior golfer
Alissa Fish finished runner-up after one-hole playoff at the 2022 Briar Ridge Invitational at the Briar Ridge County Club on Monday afternoon.
Fish was sitting at -1 with two holes remaining, trailing host Illinois-Chicago's Megan Tang. Tang had a two stroke lead but Fish birdied to get to -2 and Tang bogeyed to fall to -2 and finish in a tie. The two then played a one-hole playoff, with Tang recording a par and Fish a bogey. The Clarklake, Mich., native set a new career-low round after shooting a 68 (-4) on the day. She combined that with a 74 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 142 (-2), also a new career-best. She finished the tournament with 23 pars and and a team-high six birdies.
Western Michigan finished tied for second with Green Bay, shooting a 303 in the final round for a 36-hole total of 607 (+31). Morehead State won the title with a 598 (+22).
Freshman
Megha Vallabhaneni shot a 76 on the day to finish with a 150 (+6) to finish tied for seventh. The Northville, Mich., native finished tied for the tournament lead in pars with 26. Freshman
Jenna Hayes, competing as an individual, finished tied for 19th with a 155 (+11) after shooting a77 on the day.
Natalie Samdal finished two strokes behind her with a 157 (+13). Junior
Haley Barclay shot a 159 (+15), while
Ally Barth wrapped up WMU's top five with a 161 (+17).
Western Michigan heads across the state to Ypsilanti for the annual Shirley Spork Invitation on Monday and Tuesday at Eagle Crest Golf Course.
